Firstly, log into
your control panel
here.
This
is a step-by-step process.
 |
Click
on the 'DIRECTORIES' tab.
NOTE: The
term 'directories' is the same as a
'folder' on your Windows desktop. |
 |
Currently,
you don't have any protected, or
passworded directories.
Click
'ADD'. |
 |
On
this screen, firstly enter the
directory/folder you want to protect.
The
'directory location':
Non-SSL: If your directory is
within the 'httpdocs' folder.
SSL: If your directory is within
the 'httpsdocs' folder.
The
header text can be anything of your
choosing.
Enter the
username for your passworded directory.
Now,
click 'ADD'. |
 |
Enter
the password and click 'UPDATE'. |
 |
Once
you've created your user, click on 'UP
LEVEL'.
You
should now see this screen showing the
directory that is passworded/protected.
If the
lock is open, this means the folder is
within the non-secure area of your website
(httpdocs).
If the
lock is closed, the folder is within the
secure area (httpsdocs). |
 |
Now
in your browser, you can go to your
website with the passworded directory and
you should have this pop up box.
NOTE: In
some browsers, if you have already typed
in your username and password, you will
not get this box each time you visit the
website. |
You have NOT
created the actual directory/folder yet. You
should now create the directory/folder either
through your authoring tool (eg. Frontpage) or
through FTP.
